Body Mass Index Calculator

Body Mass Index Calculator - BMI
What is it and how do I get one?

The body mass index is defined as the individual's body mass divided by the square of his or her height.  Simply stated, the BMI is a way to gauge one's ratio or percentage of lean muscle vs fat.

This is a standard BMI chart.  There are many different charts available.
Here are 4 simple steps to using your BMI measurements...
Step 1
Determine your body mass index. Visit your doctor to be weighed and measured and have your BMI calculated, or use a BMI calculator, many of which are available online. You can also calculate it yourself by first converting your height into meters and your weight into kilograms, then using these metric measurements and dividing your weight by your height squared.
Step 2
Check your BMI measurement against healthy-weight guidelines to assess your situation. Cleveland Clinic says that a BMI under 18.5 means you are underweight, a BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 means your weight is normal, a BMI between 25 and 29.9 means you are overweight, and a BMI of 30 or higher means you are clinically obese.
Step 3
Use your BMI weight category to determine what steps, if any, you need to take to improve your health. If your BMI is normal, you may need to simply continue doing what you're doing. If your BMI is too low, you need to add nutritious extra calories to your diet, such as with dried fruit, nuts, avocados, peanut butter and whole-grain bread. If your BMI is too high, you're at greater risk of heart disease, diabetes, hypertension and some types of cancer and should work toward healthy weight loss through a reduced-calorie diet and regular exercise.  Consider joining the 90 day challenge I've started doing myself.  The link is at the top and bottom of this post.
Step 4
Continue to monitor your BMI to achieve, and then maintain, a healthy weight. If you have any health problems or need guidance as you make weight changes, see your doctor regularly for monitoring and personalized guidance.  Reference
